The Swiss artist Roman Signer has been involved with Iceland in various ways during the last years. His works have been exhibited here and he’s been collaborating with Icelandic artists; among them Tumi Magnússon, residing in Denmark and Seyðisfjörður, and Birgir Andrésson, who passed away in his prime in 2007. Magnússon and Signer have realized new works especially for this exhibition as well as older works are to be found, and text-works by Andrésson will be exhibited.

The exhibition will be open through September.

Skaftfell Center for Visual Art has opened a call for applications for the residency program in 2011.

The Skaftfell residency program’s objective is to create a community made up of artists and the general public in the rural setting of East-Iceland. Creating a platform to stimulate innovative dialogue between art and life. Allowing a space for artists to experience and explore a new angle to their artistic work in context with living and working in a unique, micro community were creativity is applied to every day life.

Although Skaftfell’s residency program is aimed at artists working with in the field of visual art, experimental artists working in intermediate methods are eligible to apply regardless of the nature of their primary profession/education within the arts. Group and family applications are welcome.

The residencies are located in three different houses in the town of Seyðisfjörður; at Skaftfell, at Hóll on Vesturvegur road and at the Iron House on Fossgata road. The houses all have two bedrooms, bathroom with shower, kitchen, a small living room aria and studio/working facilities. The houses are all equipped with beds, dining sets, duvets, linen and towels for 5 people. Each residency period is from 1 - 6 months.

Residency stay with a grant courtesy of kknord.

Nordic and Baltic artists are eligible to apply for a 1 - 4 month residency with full grant during September 2010 – January 2011.

It is possible for two artists to make a joint application for a 1 – 2 month residency.

The living/working facilities will be at Skaftfells new residency option at Fossgata 4. A beautiful old house newly transformed from a wood-workshop to a living/working artists residence. The house has two bedrooms/rooms, Wc with shower, a big open space incl. a kitchen, living room aria and a good working space.

The residency grant includes:

•    Travel grant up to 50.000 iskr. for flights to Iceland. Collectable after booking.
•    Travel grant from Reykjavík to Egilsstadir up to 30.000 iskr.
•    Daily allowance of 150.000 iskr pr month. (Or 5.000 iskr pr. day)
•    Fully covered residency fee

Criteria

Skaftfell uses the following criteria when evaluating applicants:

•    Primarily the quality of the applicants work as indicated by submitted visual documentation.
•    A record of exhibition and curriculum vitae.
•    Demonstration of a serious and consistent dedication of the professional practice of visual arts through submitted documents.
•    Evidence that the applicant is at a critical juncture in their development that will be advanced by the residency.

Required documents:
•    Artists statement/Project description, see application form, please try to use text sparingly and to the point.
•    Artists CV, please do not send a CV exceeding 2 pages.
•    A few examples of works (3 - 5), either as prints or on 1 Cd. Please do not send Cd’s containing more than 5 documents, the files should be .jpg for images and .mov for video. We use Mac computers with Preview and QuickTime for viewing works.

Proof of artists nationality is required (scan of passport f.ex.).

Residency open for applications in April due to cancellation:

LungA 2010 calls for applications.

Design-, music- and various artists that are interested to perform at LungA 2010 should send in an application. LungA festival will be held 12 - 18 July 2010 in Seydisfjordur, Iceland. The deadline for application is 15 March 2010. Skaftfell’s residencies are fully booked through out 2010 and we are not accepting any applications for 2011 yeat. We will post an opening for applications in spring 2010.

The exhibition program for 2010 is out, you can view it on the web under future exhibitions.

We are expecting the next lot of artists for Hóll residency on the 1st February and the yearly seminar in collaboration with the Icelandic Art Academy and the Dieter Rot Academy is coming up in late February.

Hopefully we will manage to start the seminars for MA students in fine art this fall so if you teach at an art academy or study at one, look out for the announcement on our webside later this winter…

700IS Reindeerland

International experimental film and video festival, in East Iceland.

From the 4th  of November 2009 – 4th of December 2009 we are asking artists to submit their films, all via the Internet.

In previous years we have had up to 500 submissions and this time we want to receive them online only, to minimize waste volume! Fewer envelopes, stamps and DVDs being used.

We hope you appreciate this.

We accept all experimental film/video work that has not been screened in East Iceland.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

SIMRES  - NORDIC ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM IN REYKJAVIK

Visual artists from the Nordic and Baltic countries can now apply for a stipend for Artist-in-Residences in Reykjavík. The new program is a three-year program and the first round was for residencies during autumn 2008. The next period is January until Desember 2010 and the length of the stay is 1 ­ 2 month.
Send the application by air mail to SIMRES post stamped no later than 1. November. 2009. Include contact information, CV, a proposal on how you wish to use your time in Reykjavik and at least five work samples in jpeg or one video edited to max 10 min.

The residency stipend covers travel costs, residency fee and other expenses for 1-2 months. The stipend is provided with a support from Nordic Council of Ministers / Nordic Culture Point.
