The Skaftfell residency program 2018 is now in full swing, and most residency places have been confirmed for this season. Out of 322 applications, 42 artists from all over the world have been invited to participate in Skaftfells self-directed residency program and in its thematic residency Printing Matter . The artists were selected by an external panel appointed by Skaftfell.
The self-directed residency program aims to create an environment for inspiration, focus, reflection and experiment; to encourage artists to experience life and work in a unique micro community where creativity is applied to the everyday; to foster a sense of community between artists and the public in the rural setting of East Iceland; and to provide conditions that stimulate the dialogue between art and life. During their residency the artists live and work in four historical houses in Sey?isfj?r?ur. They stay mostly for one or two months, but residency periods can be as long as six months.

In 2018 Skaftfell is able to allocate one 2-month residency grant through the ongoing partnership with Goethe Institut D?nemark. The recipient of the Goethe Institut residency grant in 2018 will be Philipp Valenta (Germany).
Skaftfells thematic residency, Printing Matter, hosts 14 artists this year. The program focuses on printmaking and artist bookmaking, with the aim of creating a platform for exchange, discussion, and collaboration amongst fellow artists from various disciplines. Printing Matter is developed and guided by Danish artist and graphic designer??se Eg J?rgensen and Litten Nystr?m and realised in collaboration with?the Technical Museum of East Iceland, where the artists have access to working facilities and printmaking equipment. The residency takes place in two groups, in February and in September.
