Skaftfell with Tækniminjasafns Austurlands and the Dieter Roth Estate will collaborate to re-stage the installation Húsin á Seyðisfirði, vetur 1988 – sumar 1995 at Angró, Seyðisfjörður, the building where the work was first shown in 1995. Dieter Roth has an extensive history with Seyðisfjörður having lived and made work in town for a number of years during the 1990s and his family retains his form home and studio in town.

The installation consists of over 800 slides of photographs of every house and building in Seyðisfjörður, taken at two periods: in the winter of 1988 and then in the summer of 1995. The work was realised by Dieter Roth with assistance from Björn Roth and Eggart Einarsson. The work is shown on six slide projectors mounted on individual small tables and projected onto the wall.

This significant work of Seyðisfjörður´s cultural history forms a portrait of the town over time, and shows it in a democratized manner whereby every building, regardless of its function or importance, is presented in exactly the same manner. Dieter Roth first showed the work at Angró, and it has subsequently been shown in various galleries and museums around the world, and as part of an exhibition which was formative in the establishment of Skaftfell. Following that exhibition Dieter gifted an edition of the work to the town which has been in the care of Tækniminjasafn Austurland.

We are grateful for the support of The Dieter Roth Estate in realising this project.
