Skaftfell Center for Visual Art provides a regular gallery program of modern and contemporary art, artist residencies and an education program. Within the art center is also a bistro which contains a library of visual art books. Skaftfell’s activities seek to provide an opportunity for both the local community and visitors to experience and engage with the diversities of contemporary art.
According to the three-way agreement between Skaftfell, the Culture Council of East Iceland and Seyðisfjarðarkaupstadur, Skaftfell plays a crucial role within Iceland as being recognized as one of three institutions that together form the cultural center for the East Iceland.
