Skaftfell warmly welcomes Veronika Geiger and Hallgerður Hallgrímsdóttir artists in residence for the month of April.
The Danish/Swiss and Icelandic visual artists Veronika Geiger and Hallgerður Hallgrímsdóttir both studied their BA in Fine Art Photography at Glasgow School of Art and their paths crossed again when Veronika started coming to Iceland. When they were hired to teach photography to young creatives they found they were equally infatuated with the medium.
They employ the light sensitivity of silver to make images of Seyðisfjörður using a site specific room sized camera obscura. Thus revisiting the foundational elements of photography as well as taking time to really look at a place and wonder what happens when you do so.
Veronika has an MA in Fine Art at Iceland University of the Arts (2016) and Hallgerður holds an MFA in Photography from Valand in Gothenburg (2019). Their practice is primarily lens-based and their work has been exhibited internationally.
