But what is at stake? How can a small town like Seydisfj\u00f6rdur continue to host a large number of tourists and maintain the appeal of an authentic Icelandic town?<\/p>\n<p>On August 9th, Skaftfell residency artist Jessica Auer will share her visual research on the impact of tourism at other global sites and discuss how the identities of these places have\u00a0been altered. The presentation will include an open discussion with the community of Seydisfj\u00f6rdur to address how\u00a0Seydisfjordur may continue to grow its tourism industry while respecting the social and cultural way of life of the community.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman';\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jessicaauer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jessica Auer<\/strong><\/a> is a Canadian photographer and visual artist. Her work is broadly concerned with the study of landscapes as cultural sites, focusing on themes that connect history, place, journey and cultural experience. She received anMFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University in 2007 and has since exhibited across Canada and abroad. An avid wanderer, she has participated in numerous international artist residencies including the Banff Centre in Alberta, The Brucebo Travel Residency based in Gotland, Sweden, The Chilkoot Trail AIR in Alaska and the Yukon Territory and the Baer Art Center in Hofdastr\u00f6nd, Iceland.
