This fully funded residency, made possible by the Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, will support one artist and one artist duo to participate in the residency program for three months and contribute to Skaftfell\u2019s educational and exhibition programme.<\/p>\n

This open call is available for artists from Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, and \u00c5land. Artists already based in Iceland are not eligible, as the program intends to foster the mobility of artists between the Nordic and Baltic countries.<\/p>\n

Artist fee for contribution to educational programme or exhibition 400.000 ISK (2.666 euro)
\nArtist\u2019s material budget 200.000 ISK (1.333 euro)
\nPer diem total for 3 months: 450.000 ISK (3.000 euro)
\nAdditionally the grant covers travel expenses and residency fee.<\/p>\n

The duration of the residency is 12 weeks, from August 3, 2025 –\u00a0 October 25, 2025. Selected artists must be able to commit to the full length of the residency period.<\/p>\n

ABOUT THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM<\/p>\n

Skaftfell Art Center offers an international self-directed artist-in-residence program in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, a small village located in the East Fjords of Iceland. The residency program\u2019s remote setting provides artists the opportunity to work in relative seclusion in a place that is also home to an international community of working artists. The residency offers space for contemplation, productivity, and collaboration and is ideal for artistic research and experimentation.<\/p>\n

Living arrangements range from single residency facilities for living and working, to spaces that can be shared by artists working in pairs or groups whether they are working on a collaborative project or parallel projects.<\/p>\n

The residency community is characterised by its context within Iceland\u2019s subarctic climate. Winter brings snowstorms and darkness; the summer months, when the weather is mild the town transform from a quiet village of several hundred residents to a tourist destination. Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is at once secluded and connected; it harbours the only ferry connection to mainland Europe but the town\u2019s only connection to the nearest town and the ring road is a mountain pass that is often inaccessible in winter. This creates a particular duality isolation and connectedness.<\/p>\n

For whom: <\/b>Artists working in all media.<\/p>\n

Accommodation and work space: <\/b>The artists will stay in two buildings in town within walking distance from the Skaftfell Art Center. Each house offers private rooms and facilities for cooking and shared living and working spaces. Each accommodating 1-3 artists at a time. One of the apartments are respectively situated above the newly established collaborative fine art print workshop Prentverk Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and on the third floor of the Skaftfell building, above the gallery.<\/p>\n

In addition to the living facilities, the residency also offers artists to work in the fine art printmaking workshop which Skaftfell is a part of. The workshop offers professional printmaking facilities with space and equipment for silkscreen, intaglio (linocut, woodcut, etching), letter-press and various hand printing techniques.<\/p>\n

Artist also have the possibility to work in the net factory, a collective studio space hosting the LungA School studio\u2019s as well as a few local artists.<\/p>\n
