Skaftfell, Center for Visual Art in East Iceland, celebrates its 20th organizational anniversary next year. To mark the occasion the center calls for proposals for the 2018 summer exhibition in the 150 sq m Skaftfell gallery. Preferably the proposal should refer to the long-term collaboration between Skaftfell and the Technical Museum of East Iceland, also located in Seyðisfjörður. The museum collection and workshops can be utilised but the exhibition framework and execution is open-ended.
For a long time Seyðisfjörður has been known as a dynamic cultural town where the preservation of old timber houses has been successful. In this small a town an artist’s colony has developed where many native and international artists have resided for shorter and longer periods. The core, crossing four generations, is constantly regenerated and artist’s houses are being bought and sold within the group. Within these conditions Skaftfell has thrived, alongside other art phenomenon’s: The Technical Museum, LungA Festival, The Blue Church Summer Concert Series, Heima, the LungA School to name a few. Skaftfell and the museum work closely together on a regular basis on many projects, including Workshop Seyðisfjörður that has taken place annually in collaboration with the Icelandic Art Academy and the Dieter Roth Academy.
