Art education

The art center regularly provides workshops and courses in various techniques, as well as guided tours of our exhibitions. They are delivered by Skaftfell’s staff or by local artists, international residency artists, or professional artists involved in our yearly art education project in the autumn.

From 2001 to 2018 the Dieter Roth Academy, together with the Iceland University of the Arts (LHÍ), held a yearly workshop at Skaftfell for graduating art students. This tradition was continued and gone through changes with LHÍ’s Print Workshop coming to Skaftfell in 2021 and 2022. Since 2023 Skaftfell and LHÍ have re-established the yearly workshop which culminates in an exhibition in the Skaftfell gallery with the graduating art students from LHÍ.

Skaftfell also co-organizes and participates in BRAS, an annual art festival for children in East Iceland.

In 2007, Skaftfell initiated targeted educational work tailored to the needs of elementary schools in East Iceland.

Dieter Roth Academy: During the period 2001-2018, the Dieter Roth Academy, together with the Iceland Academy of the Arts, organized an annual course for graduating students of the Faculty of Fine Arts called Vinnustofan Seyðisfjörður.

Skaftfell welcomes schools and other groups to take guided tours of exhibitions in the Skaftfell exhibition hall.

In collaboration with Prentverk Seyðisfjörður, Skaftfell regularly hosts print workshops for children and teenagers in the different methods of printing.

Skaftfell offers unique workshops for both adults and children in connection with events, guest workshops or exhibitions.

Skaftfell hosts artist talks where Skaftfell's guest artists present to the public what they are working on during their stay. These events are free of charge.
