I want to feel how close you are

29.09.11 – 16.10.11

The visual artists Barbara Amalie Skovmand Thomsen & Ulla Eriksen have been assisting each other for years. This is their very first time that they work together as a duo, and present new works made on Iceland for the Bookshop – projectspace. Among other things, the new zen-short video ‘Bylgja’ (eng: Wave) from the Jarðböðin við Mývatn and a series of drawings of a stone will be presented together with a photographic result from their teaching of the girls from the 9th grade in Seydisfjordur.

The exhibition is based on the ‘duet’ as a phenomenon. The ideas for the works are compositions, pieces or actions for two.

Barbara Amalie Skovmand Thomsen & Ulla Eriksen both live and work in Amsterdam. They met each other at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, in Amsterdam. In their individual works as well as in their collaboration they work with the notion of cohesion – the human being as being at home in the universe, being in relation to and part of (what we call) nature, influencing and influenced by other human relations that takes part in you and are inseparable.

Barbara Amalie Skovmand Thomsen is an artist in residence at Skaftfell for August and September 2011.
