25 different hats +1 other hat is a group exhibition by the third year students in fine arts at the Iceland University of the Arts, taking place in Skaftfell in the winter of 2026.

2001 – 2026. Year after year, layer after layer pile on top of each other like pancakes and mountain strata. We are the twenty-fifth layer. 25 set off on an expedition and then they added 1 more. A vertical culture where light enters horizontally so the mountains carry the sun like a hat. Inspiration drawn from dwelling in the fjord and artworks pulled out of hats.

Each different and maybe one other, that sums it up.

= 26

Skaftfell Art Center and the Icelandic University of the Arts are proud to present an exhibition featuring 26 graduating artists from the Department of Fine Arts. The group has been living in Seyðisfjord for two weeks and creating new works for an exhibition in Skaftfell’s gallery under the guidance of artists Gunnhildur Walsh Hauksdóttir and Sirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir.

The workshop is a collaboration between Skaftfell Art Center and the Icelandic University of the Arts, which began in 2001, 25 years ago, with the initiative of Björn Roth and Kristján Steingrímur Jónsson. Among the first students to participate were Gunnhildur and Sirra, who now lead the workshop. This year, the importance of keeping the course’s legacy alive is especially present as we bid farewell to Björn Roth.
