Crying Pink is a collective exhibition which challenges the gendered symbol of the colour Pink. Curated by Claire Paugam at Skaftfell Art Center, Crying Pink brings together contemporary artists Dýrfinna Benita Basalan (IS), Hélène Hulak (FR) and Drag Queen Gógó Starr (IS) who engage critically and playfully with patriarchal symbols and pop culture. Through distorted, exaggerated representations of cultural phenomena, these artists channel both political perspectives and personal narratives, creating powerful, subversive art.
When deconstructing feminine stereotypes, Pink will cry because gender stereotypes have taught us that tears belong to femininity, but when a colour cries, it becomes as fluid as gender itself.
