Introducing artist in residence: Oskar Gísli Petzet

Oskar Gísli Petzet is a German-Icelandic performance and video artist. He was born and raised in Germany by German-Icelandic parents and studied art in Reykjavík, Brussels and Cologne. Performative interventions are at the heart of his work. He uses a wide variety of formats to create an interaction with the audience, or strangers on the street, and then involves them in complex, multi-layered communication experiments in which the viewers and their reactions often become part of the next level of the work.

For his stay at Skaftfell Art Center he develops a process-based work in which he creates animations which are inspired by the unique atmosphere of the winterly Seyðisfjörður. These animations will be presented at Herðubíó to the local audience in a screening. The responses of the audience will then become part of the next step in the process, a follow-up series of animations, and so on. The repeated interaction between artist , environment and audience is at the heart of the project and might lead to an installation/ film project in which the whole process is documented.
