Application deadline: Monday, 1. December 2025 (applicants will be notified within 4-5 weeks of deadline)

Wandering through the perpetual sound of falling water.
Wandering under the late evening sun.
Wandering through fog—
with thoughts,
with strangers,
with words,
and with the silence that follows.

Using walking as a means to experience place, body, and mind, this thematic residency brings together eight artists to explore the notion of wandering as an aesthetic practice. The fjord, rivers, mountains, valleys, routes, and paths of Seyðisfjörður will provide participants with an arena in which to move and reflect on ideas of space, time, and memory—allowing walks and wanderings to inform their artistic process.

Through a series of group hikes (approximately every other day), reading groups, hands-on workshops, casual conversations, and fieldwork, artists will share their sensitivities to place, focusing on process and research rather than on finished production. Participants can expect to participate in 3-4 days of group activities per week, with 3-4 days of self-directed practice. The residency will conclude with an informal presentation of work-in-progress. The possibility of overnight hikes will be discussed with the group.
Walks and workshops will be guided by Jessica Auer, artist and director of Ströndin Studio, and Kamilla Gyfadóttir, artist and residency coordinator at Skaftfell Art Center.

Accommodation and working spaces: Participating artists will stay in three houses throughout the town, all within short walking distance to Skaftfell Art Center and to each other. The houses are set up as shared self-catering accommodation, each including private bedrooms, a combined living and working space, shared bathroom and kitchen, working tables, washing machine, and WiFi. Shared studio spaces will be available to participants off-site.

Costs for the artist: The residency fee is 220,000 ISK and includes the Slóð program, shared self-catering accommodation, access to shared working spaces and basic equipment, and general support and PR from Skaftfell’s staff. Residency fee, travel costs, and meals will be paid by the participant.

Travel: Residency artists are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Seyðisfjörður.

Important: Please note that participation in this residency involves extensive outdoor activity in unpredictable weather. Artists must be able to comfortably walk up to 8 hours per day on uneven terrain while carrying their personal equipment and other necessities. Artists must bring a solid pair of boots and weather-proof clothing.

Application: Please submit your application with the required attachments using our online application form. The deadline for the application is December 1, 2025. Applicants will be notified within 4-5 weeks of the deadline.
