Skaftfells artist’s in residence show and tell about their works.
Monday, April 18th at 17:00 the artists Kate Woodcroft & Catherine Sagin, Henriikka Härkönen and Tom Backe Rasmussen will open shows of their recent works at Skaftfell’s two small gallery spaces, the West Wall gallery and the Bookshop – Project space. Kate Woodcroft, Catherine Sagin and Tom Backe Rasmussen will hold an artist talk at the same occasion where they will show images and talk about their working methods.

Kate Woodcroft & Catherine Sagin
Artists in residence at the Iron House residency during March – May 2011.
Formed in 2008, Catherine Sagin is the collaborative practice of Kate Woodcroft and Catherine Sagin. This naming is the result of a work of a live ten-minute fencing duel undertaken in 2010. The winner of the duel secured naming rights of the collaboration for the period of one year. Catherine won the bout 10-8.
Based in Brisbane, Australia, Kate and Catherine have been collaborating since 2008. Both are currently studying a Masters degree in Fine Arts at Queensland University of Technology. In 2010 they were selected to take part in Fresh Cut at the IMA, an exhibition of the most promising emerging artists from Queensland. They have also exhibited at Art space Visual Art Centre, Sydney; Next Wave Festival, Melbourne and recently held a solo exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane. They are co-founders of No Frills* Artist Run Initiative and were in residence at Art space Sydney before traveling to Iceland.
Henriikka Härkönen
Artist in residence at the Skaftfell residency during March – April 2011.
Henriikka Härkönen (b.1981) is a Finnish artist working mostly with text, performance and installation. She has studied in the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Finland, and in the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In recent years she has exhibited her work both in solo exhibitions as well as in various group exhibitions in Finland and in the Netherlands.
Tom Backe Rasmussen
Artist in residence at the Hóll residency during March – May 2011.
Tom Backe Rasmussen is born in Svendborg, Denmark. He studied at the academies in Amsterdam, Oslo and Copenhagen. He works in a crossover of media, including installation, sculpture, video, performance and photography, currently focusing on painting. The works emerge at the intersection of a variety of approaches; the critical, the absurd, the analytical and the poetic. Relating to current global/local transitions and changes, switching between microcosmic and macrocosmic views. There is an effort to make visible underlying structures and patterns in society and create a space for the contemplation of the human condition in a parallel now.
