Dance workshop and individual bodywork sessions
As in all of nature, our patterns are layered into landscapes,
changing each moment, while maintaining a sense of continuity and longevity. Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen
Zdenka Brungot Sv?tekov? (NO/SK) is artist in residence at Skaftfell in August and September. She is a dancer, performer, dance maker and facilitator. She graduated with a Master degree in dance from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Zdenkas work is anchored in movement research fuelled by a deep interest in the body. She sees the body as a field of enquiry, knowledge, and memory; as a teacher, mediator, and information conveyor. A leading concern in her artistic approach is to create and to cultivate space for the personal, embodied expression of each individual.
As part of her residency at Skaftfell, Zdenka offers to share her practice with the people interested her fascination and passion for movement, its beauty, the freedom we all are capable of, and the knowledge about the body that she has collected as a dancer, maker and researcher. Her approach is nourished by somatic practices (Feldenkrais technique, Skinner release technique, Yoga, Facia-therapy, Klein technique), release work, experiential anatomy, as well as classical and contemporary dance.

The workshop is free of charge and open to all (16+).

The dance workshop will explore ideas of rest, equilibrium, sustainability and longevity, and how they are linked to a deep understanding of the body, its structures and systems. It will focus on a healthy movement approach, growth, unfolding of the bodys potential, and efficient movement paths. As workshop leader Zdenka sees herself as facilitator for other peoples paths and interests, while providing a frame for their curiosity and joy of movement, respecting the body and its potential.

The individual bodywork sessions are aimed at releasing tensions in the body, increasing general wellbeing and ones understanding of the own body and its movement potential. The sessions were developed through long term research into the phenomenon of touch as a tool for informing and reforming the body. Zdenka works with touch as nuanced pressure, ranging form very subtle to full pressure, always respecting the receiving bodys condition. The approach used during the sessions is informed by different manual therapies as well as Zdenka’s own knowledge coming from dance related work.
The bodywork sessions were developed as part of the research project HAZARD ZONE, investigating micro-movements and the layered tectonics of bodily structures. HAZARD ZONE is supported by the Slovak Arts Council.
Zdenkas residency at Skaftfell is supported by the Nordic Baltic Mobility Programme and the Slovak Arts Council.
