“Buildings, comics and children’s books – an unintentional way to become an artist.”
In our first artist talk of the year, current residency artist Anna Vaivare will present her artistic journey from architecture to illustration, murals and comic books, and will give an insight into her work in progress.
There will be coffee and cake, and everyone is welcome. Please wear a mask.
Anna Vaivare is an artist from Latvia mostly working in illustration and other graphic forms of transmitting stories and experiences. She started her professional career as an architect after graduating from Riga Technical University Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning. Having created and published a number of short comics, and having illustrated five children’s books she then studied for a Master degree at the Art Academy of Latvia Printmaking department.
While at Skaftfell Anna is planning to work on a new series of graphic novels, experimenting with her skills in visual storytelling and finding a visual language to display biographical stories including ambiguous emotions.
Anna is in residency at Skaftfell throughout April and May, supported by Nordic Culture Point (Nordic Baltic Mobility Programme).
