D?ja Hansd?ttir (b.1991 Reykjav?k) was raised in the United States by Icelandic and Honduran immigrants and now lives and works in Sey?isfj?r?ur. D?ja is drawn to the aesthetics of formalized public temporal spaces for their potential to articulate an emotional rehearsal and allow us to rebel against the roles we are often playing behind the scenes and on stage.?Her practice is centered around photography, but the horror of image making is turned into flesh with the viewers hand. Images and memory curl into objects or performances possessed by the exploration of mechanized gestures.?D?ja’s work also explores the consequences of the mechanized male gaze in these temporal spaces, the history of photography and the narrative of landscape.

D?ja is currently the director of programming at Her?ub??, the only cinema in East Iceland. The theater continues to inspire her photographic work.
