Abigail Severance is a Los Angeles-based artist making films and other images about nostalgia, flawed history, and queer thought. Her work has been exhibited at the Broad Museum, MOCA/LA, Sundance, Studio Museum of Harlem, and the Wexner Center, among other spaces. She has received a Fulbright, a Film Independent fellowship, and most recently a CalArts Faculty Research & Practice Grant for “We the Devoted,”, a near-future narrative about borders and labor made collectively with its ensemble cast. For Abigail, working with moving and/or sequential images means constantly chasing time, their very impermanence a haptic, existential form of witnessing. While at Skaftfell, she is continuing work on a new photo & video series “You, An Archive,” which draws together radical queer imaginaries and the intelligence of natural systems (forests, glaciers, oceans).
