Alessa Brossmer – Glow In The Dark

Skaftfell’s current artist in residence Alessa Brossmer (DE) opens her in-house installation GlowInTheDark on April 16, 21:00 – 23:00 in Nielsenhús, Hafnargata 14. There will be hot drinks and conversations to melt the winter away. Everyone is welcome!

GlowInTheDark takes place in a house once owned by a fisherman. In the living room, glowing bioluminescence has settled, a natural phenomenon by which microbes and algae glow in the dark. For their residency, these tiny organisms favour the edges of the walls, ceiling and floor. In darkness, the room appears to be inverted – what you clearly see in daylight is now populated by shadows. Thanks to the bioluminescence we can still guess the structure of the room.

Alessa Brossmer (b. 1988 in Germany) focuses on medially versatile works at the intersection of architecture and research. She uses photographs to make notes for three-dimensional works, incorporating casts, models, and vinyl. Alessa studied Sculpture at University of Art and Design Halle, and Applied Culture and Media Studies at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences. Right now, she is preparing for an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in the field of Space Architecture. She has presented her artistic work in exhibitions in Germany and Austria, for example at Bauhaus Dessau, and at Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis in Bregenz.
