Alejandra is a Mexican visual artist based in Oslo, Norway. Her work focuses on the stories that shape identity. She finds motivation through subtle moments in everyday life: events in appearance common or ordinary that hold meaningful possibilities to change and transform the narratives that constitute our reality. In her artistic practice she explores these possibilities through symbolic representations of animals, domestic objects, and natural landscapes. Elements from her childhood and present life coexist playfully in her prints and graphic installations.
She experiments with different printmaking techniques, mixing monotype with woodcut, producing layered images and three dimensional objects. Alejandra builds intricate colourful universes where her motifs come together in unexpected ways, revealing uncanny and fantastic scenes.
Her work often expands into larger installations that invite the audience to explore and find personal connections. The light coming from inside the graphic objects becomes an important tool to create experiences full of mystery and hope. Her residency at Skaftfell is generously supported by Arts Council Norway.
