New director of Skaftfell: Pari Stave

The Board of Skaftfell is delighted to announce the appointment of Pari Stave as new director of Skaftfell Center for Visual Art. She will take up her position on May 1, 2022.

During the previous two years the directorship has been shared between Hanna Christel Sigurkarlsdóttir and Julia Martin. Hanna Christel will leave Skaftfell on July 1 but Julia will stay on as project manager, taking care of Skaftfell’s international projects and the residency program.

Pari Stave comes from The Metropolitan Museum in New York, where for the past eight years she has held the position of Senior Manager of Administration, Collections, and Curatorial Projects in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. Prior to joining The Met she worked as Consulting Curator for the American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF). An art historian and curator, Pari has collaborated on numerous exhibitions, among them Ragnar Kjartansson: Death Is Elsewhere, which was co-organized with Jennifer Farrell and debuted at the Met in 2019. She was co-curator, with Ingibjörg Jóhannsdóttir, of Other Hats:  Icelandic Printmaking, organized for the International Print Center New York and later shown at Listasafn ĺslands in 2018. In 2017, she organized and wrote a catalogue essay for Hverfing|Shapeshifting, which was shown at Verksmiðjan á Hjalteyri. At ASF, she co-curated with Patricia C. Berman, Munch|Warhol and the Multiple Image, which traveled to Ankara in 2013 on the occasion of the first visit to Turkey of the King and Queen of Norway. She also collaborated with Timothy Persons on the exhibition, New Wave Finland: Contemporary Photography from the Helsinki School. In 2013, she curated Iceland: Artists Respond to Place, a group exhibition at the Katonah Museum of Art in New York.
