Skaftfell is also pleased to announce the launch of the history book Skaftfell: Tilurðarsaga 1996–2008 (Origin Story 1996–2008), written by former director Tinna Guðmundsdóttir.

This book chronicles the story of Skaftfell Art Center in the town of Seydisfjordur in the period from 1995 to just over 2008. Skaftfell was founded in 1998 and has since pioneered the dissemination of visual art in East Iceland. The establishment of the centre is unique in Iceland and was at the time, an effort undertaken by a diverse collection of people who assembled in the Skaftfell Group, which was founded in 1997, a year before the centre was founded. The group took the role of supporting, maintaining and promoting culture in Seydisfjordur and supporting and strengthening all of Skaftfell’s activities.
