Stella & Pietu’s time at Skaftfell

We have been fortunate to have Stella Fritzsch and Pietu Lyytinen on vocational exchange at Skaftfell during the first phase of Geiri’s preservation project. They are both studying at the Pekka Halonen Academy in Tuusula, Finland, in the school’s Fine Arts programme.

Stella is a student from Helsinki graduating to become an implementer of visual expression. In addition to her current studies she is also in her fourth year of environmental studies in the University of Helsinki, trying to figure out how to combine environmental knowledge with her art practice.

Pietu is a student from Järvenpää and is studying for a vocational qualification in arts and design. Pietu previously studied graphic design and graduated as an implementer of visual expression in 2016.

They have assisted with the installation and supervision of the Geiri – Open house exhibition, under the guidance of Gunnhildur Hauksdóttir in collaboration with Damian Henryksson. They packed, cleaned, measured, registered, moved, organized, described and listed the items and art works from Geirahús, as well as helped with the installation and exhibition.

As well as enjoying the process and handling the delicate works of Geiri, Stella and Pietu enjoyed the mountains, the waterfalls, beach, the swimming pool, sauna and walking in nature. During their stay they experimented with electric etching at the Print Workshop, made their own postcards and went horseback riding in Egilsstaðir. We are extremely grateful to them and their hard work and wish them all the best for the future.
