The Skaftfell Cultural Center in Seyðisfjörður was founded in 1998 and is one of the longest-running independent art centers in the country. From the beginning, Skaftfell has hosted a strong exhibition program with an emphasis on contemporary art and has also operated a restaurant and guest studio , which is probably the first of its kind in the country . Behind the founding of Skaftfell was a strong group of individuals from different backgrounds who contributed immeasurable work and great passion to see Skaftfell become a reality . In today ‘s image , we are going to consider this remarkable art center , the cultural heart of East Iceland. We interview Tinna Guðmundsdóttir, a visual artist, former director and author of a new book about the history of Skaftfell, as well as Þóra Guðmundsdóttir, an architect and entrepreneur, Pétur Kristjánsson, an ethnographer, visual artist and former director of the Technical Museum in Seyðisfjörður, Una Björga Magnúsdóttir, a visual artist, Þóri Höskuldsson, a visual artist and Anna Margrét Ólafsdóttir, project manager in Skaftfell.
