Throughout August and December 2016 London Fieldworks will be in residence at Skaftfell. Over the two-month residency the artists will create “Short films about light and dark identifying and expressing local ways of knowing within the context of changing light.
Bruce and Jo will introduce their work and encourage a discussion about the experience of light and dark in Sey?isfj?r?ur.
Bruce Gilchrist and Jo Joelson are collaborating artists exploring the relationship between geography and contemporary art, investigating the meeting points of culture and nature through films, constructed environments, and multi-sensory installations. Their studio is based in east London but projects are informed by fieldwork conducted in urban, rural and remote territories (including Brazil, North East Greenland, Northern Norway, Scottish Highlands, Southern India and the USA) and in dialogue with people living and working in those areas. Their practice has led to an interest in the idea of remoteness challenged through technological connectivity and how this impacts on rural communities and links between the urban and rural.
