The photo series Hello and Goodbye is a documentation of the short period of family life. Every ten years female members of the artist’s family, consisting of her mother and her three sisters, are photographed in a group photo with all current family members living in each household. Families are ever changing units and the series portrays the changes that happen between each photo shoot. Individuals and pets are both added to the unit and leave the unit, children are born and grow up.?
The first photo session was taken in 1998 on black and white film while the artist was still in college. The family members live in three different locations: the mother and youngest sister live together; the middle sister lives with her partner and two children; the oldest sister lives with her partner and one child.?
In the next session, taken in 2008, the mother has moved and has started living with her partner; the youngest sister has moved and has started living with a partner; the middle sister has moved and is living on her own with two children; the oldest sister is living on her own with two children.
In the last session, taken in 2018, the mother lives with her partner; the youngest sister has moved in with a new partner and three children; the middle sister has moved in with a new partner and lives with two children, her oldest child has started living on her own; the oldest sister lives with her children.
