Mapping Sound. For his artist residency at Skaftfell in the autumn of 2022, Czech sound installation artist Jan Krti
ka made field recordings of site-specific locations in Sey?isfj?r?ur and Sk?lanes. One can access these recordings on the website aporee.org, a database of field recordings from around the world. Jan’s residency was part of the project Gardening of Soul, a collaborative partnership between Skaftfell and Univerzita Jana Evangelisty Purkynev ?st? nad Labem in the Czech Republic.

ka: I spent one month in Sey?isfj?r?ur exploring its surroundings. The Icelandic landscape is very specific and?something I had never experienced before. We all know photographs of the Icelandic landscape. But does anybody know how Iceland sounds? I recorded sounds of some places around Sey?isfj?r?ur and placed them at?aporee.org?website to share my acoustic experience of this exceptional place.
