What to bring?

Warm, waterproof clothes, hats, gloves, hiking boots or other good waterproof shoes / boots. Private computers, cameras, video recorders etc. as needed. European citizens are advised to apply for and bring the European Health Insurance Card. Note: the residency houses are all necessary equipped with bed linen and towels.

How to get to Seyðisfjörður?

Flights to Iceland: Icelandair has frequent flights from various destinations in Europe and North America to Keflavik International Airport. www.icelandair.com

Domestic flights within Iceland: Icelandair operates flights from the domestic airport Reykjavík to Egilsstaðir, the closest airport to Seyðisfjörður. Bookings can be made through Air Iceland www.airiceland.is . Busses are available to transport you from Keflavík airport to the domestic airport in Reykjavík. Be sure to estimate minimum 2 1/2 hours for transit from arrival at Keflavik airport to the departure for Egilsstaðir from the domestic airport in Reykjavik.

Getting from Egilsstaðir to Seyðisfjörður: Egilsstaðir is 25 minutes drive from Seyðisfjörður, over the mountain pass Fjardarheiði. Busses are available for transport from Egilsstaðir airport to Seyðisfjörður. [Note: Please consider booking a flight that has a bus connection to Seyðisfjörður. Skaftfell does not have the capacity to pick up passengers from the airport.] Bus schedule: The schedule you can find on the website: www.visitseydisfjordur.com

Travel to Seyðisfjörður by sea: The Ferry Norræna www.smyril-line.com sails directly to Seyðisfjörður from Hirshals, Denmark.

How to get around Seyðisfjörður?
There is no public transportation within the small town of Seyðisfjörður. Most places are accessible by foot. Skaftfell also has a road bicycle that can be borrowed for longer distances. 

Where to buy groceries and basic supplies in Seyðisfjörður?
Kjörbúdin is the only grocery store in Seyðisfjörður. Most basic food items are available there. More extensive shopping can be done in Egilsstaðir.

What supplies are available in Seyðisfjörður?

There are no art supply stores in Seyðisfjörður. In Egilsstaðir one can find the  hardware store „Húsasmiðjan“ with a small paint, brush and canvas section; the shop „A4“ sells paper and basic drawing utensils. The printshop Héradsprent in Egilsstaðir also has a selection of paper, colours and basic tools besides facilitating printing. It is possible to send them a file by email and have them send printouts via post to Skaftfell.
