„Corrected Vision“ is a new installation by artist Jessica MacMillan, where she has turned her bedroom in Skaftfell’s artist residency apartment into a solar observation room. By installing sheets of optical-grade filter over the windows of the room, 99.999% of all light from outside is blocked-and in combination with a completely darkened space inside-leaves the spherical sun as the only visible object. Unlike most solar filters, the special filter in this installation does not alter the color of the sun, and allows the viewer to experience the natural color: white.

Open times of the installation will be dependent on the weather: 12:00-14:00 on days when the sun is visible from Seyðisfjörður. Since the weather is always changing, the artist will post below to confirm open days.

Jessica MacMillan (b. 1987) lives and works in Oslo. She holds a Master of Fine Art from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo, and a Bachelor of Fine Art in sculpture and art history from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Through the medium of sculpture and installation, Jessica’s multidisciplinary approach to sculpture and installation illustrates concepts within astronomy and their relationship to daily life. Geophysical orientation and scientific instruments are reoccurring in her work, allowing for contextual links between the gallery space and the cosmos.

„Corrected Vision“ is supported by NBK and Kulturrådet (Arts Council Norway).
